“I love a dog …He does nothing for political reasons.” – Will Rogers

Dogs and dog-people are not especially fond of politicians who do not share their fondness for one- another. I voted today and had to chose the better of each office’s candidates and on issues my dog has no opinion. I do know however, that California tends to vote in a manner that every election cycle is less about governance and instead, more about which group thinks they can be thrown a bone anytime they demand. I understand why a person who runs for national office might want a dog. As Harry Truman once quipped, paraphrased here, “in Washington DC, if you want a friend, get a dog”.

Though a dog will give you all the attention you seek, without requiring total commitment in return, a politician who has no dog in his or her inner circle, inspires no undivided loyalty in me. Bernie like Trump, is not a dog- person. There will be bumps in the road ahead. Even if Bernie goes head to head with Trump in November, the absence of pet hair in the White House ushers in another 4 difficult years.
