Who’s peekin’ out from under a stairway
Calling a name that’s lighter than air
Who’s bending down to give me a rainbow
Everyone knows it’s Windy-the Association (1967)
The cold wind (for San Diego, mind you) is blowin’ tonight as it has all day long. For late February, this is the best opportunity to wear, in what Chicagoans or perhaps Philadelphians would call “pullover” weather, a thick jacket.
It’s perfect time for the dogs. Neither one is puffing or panting at the moment — and they do that when the temperature rises above 66 or 67 degrees (F). They were full of energy tonight on our brisk walk. But we had better enjoy it while it lasts. San Diego will soon be back to 75 F.
And about the golden mouldie quoted here? Windy was the first contemporary (I was eight years old at the time) piece I learned to play on the piano when I was growing up. My house was one of those homes where piano music was all classical. I never heard rock music until I was twelve. Probably why I gave up on the piano as so boring a year or two later. I can only imagine had I learned to play rock n’ roll in the 60’s. But then an eight year old was too young and sheltered to “turn on, tune out, and get funky”.
Breezes. Tripping. Maybe I’ll learn to play Windy on the guitar for old times sake.
Who’s tripping down the streets of the city
Smilin’ at everybody she sees
Who’s reachin’ out to capture a moment
Everyone knows it’s Windy
