Old soldier’s home

“Dogs and Sailors: Keep off the Grass” was once a sign that was posted in a Virginia Navy town.   It didn’t last public scrutiny.

On social media  I read a story that jerked me into action.  An old veteran of WWII was losing his home of 40 years in an apartment because the new owner of the building wanted to remodel — and subsequently raise rents.  I took more than umbrage, I took action to help this veteran out.  I wrote an email to the reporter of the news article. She put me in contact with the family.  I was able to give them information about help for veterans.  They had the means to help him in the interim.  It was a gentleman with a fierce independent spirit still — at 92 — and would not go easily to live with his children.

I wrote about it in my other blog, White Male, Born Forty
