being flexible

My time in the military gave me a phrase, Semper Gumby, which to most veterans refers to military plans and personnel being flexible as situations and plans change at a moment’s notice. (Gumby is a child’s toy and television character from the early 1960s which was mostly rubber.) A performance last evening gave new meaning to the word flexibility. “A Magical Cirque Christmas” is a touring show with music, magic, stunning light shows, and yes, absolutely jaw-dropping acrobats, trapeze artists and one female pretzel. The latter bent herself forward and backwards such that I will never again associate the word “flexible” with the actor in the movie Oceans Eleven who folded himself into a cart.
