I never saw a wild thing sorry for itself. A small bird will drop frozen dead from a bough without ever having felt sorry for itself. D.H. Lawrence

Life moves, well, at the speed of life. The job I am retiring from in a matter of a couple weeks, has been supportive while I have been in and out of office. While a family member battled addiction, his siblings and we, his parents, rode an emotional roller-coaster. Then we found answers we really knew all along. You alone are responsible for what you do in life.
Though this will be my second “retirement” after a Navy career and one in industry, the business venture my wife and I launched a couple months ago is gaining momentum and positive results. And so there is little chance for me to get bored or obsess about family or work crises.
This week, a kitchen drain clogged as it has done several times in recent years. It required time, energy, and patience I did not have to devote to fixing it. And then, when I took everything apart, “fixed” the clogged pipe, and put it back together one late evening -it was still clogged farther down the drain. I did not give up, but I did procrastinate.
So for peace of mind, to prepare for this chore, and because I had not given Dexter and Comet a decent walk in two weeks, we went to Mission Trails Park. This morning we hiked part of one of the five most difficult trails in San Diego County. And because they were spent, I then took the fellows to a self-serve dog bath. Refreshing for man and beasts.
Life moves at the speed of life.
Everybody needs beauty as well as bread, places to play in and pray in, where nature may heal and give strength to body and soul. John Muir

Progress report. A clogged drain is cleared again without resorting to a plumber. But, oh boy! the blade half of a butterknife (!?) came OUT during the clearing of the pipes. (Which begs the question – did a certain young adult drop a knife into the disposal or drain (why I intentionally put strainers in the sink)?? And WHERE did the HANDLE go? And unfortunately I needed to repent, to God and Comet. A few choice words came out during the surgery.
