I recall from my earliest childhood, dogs were featured in television shows (Lassie Come Home), movies (Old Yeller, the Odyssey (Kirk Douglas movie), and in literature from the Bible (dogs dispatched wicked queen Jezebel) to Stephen King’s Cujo. While horror had it’s place, I have always preferred mongrel tales like 101 Dalmations, The Incredible Journey, and A Dog’s Purpose ( W. Bruce Cameron) as well as stories of courage with military working dogs (MWD). But even in my own experiences with dogs, like those stories, I find lessons to share with my community of friends and neighbors.
- A dog noisily slurping away on his dog pillow next to me teaches me patience and focus
- A dog clanking his nails on an empty food bowl or water dish, teaches me to put others’ needs above my own
- An excited. yipping, headlong rush to the front door (to greet my wife working later than me) teaches me priorities – welcoming first, blogging second
- And on an evening walk where rabbits are encountered, is an opportunity to get needed exercise
- And happy dreaming, snoring away, teaches me to dwell on the good moments
Everything is a learning process: any time you fall over, it’s just teaching you to stand up the next time. Joel Edgerton

Makes good sense as dogs are humans best friends.

I’m glad you liked this. My critters today were excited to get dropped off at the groomers. I doubt I am as excited when I go to the barber shop….Is there a lesson I need to take here?

Maybe, we need to be excited when getting a hair cut instead of just being quiet.
