Prayers for our grandson

Nothing compares to the joy of parents welcoming a child into their family.  Our son, Chris, and daughter-in-law, Mandy, welcomed baby Zander into the world early on Sunday morning.  And I am thrilled that I am a grandparent, by proxy, from this day forward.  And my prayer is not just for baby Zander, but for his parents as well that they may be encouraged and strengthened in this new adventure of parenting.

Children are a heritage from the Lord,
    offspring a reward(F) from him.
4 Like arrows(G) in the hands of a warrior
    are children born in one’s youth.
5 Blessed is the man
    whose quiver is full of them.  Psalm 127 (NIV)

And as a dad adopted into a family of three sons nearly twenty years ago, I know them after teething, after learning to dress themselves, and just prior to them knowing everything: their pre-teen years.  An infant is a marvel that I get to see now in images and text messages – not as an uncle or a cousin – but as a granddad.  Maybe I can be “Poppa”,  which sounds a little better than my own name for my grampa,  “Man”.  Strangely, for a man who once spoke three languages other than English, that was the best I could muster as a preschooler.

    2. i have to tell you I’m getting a little scattered. Posts incomplete and unpublished, garage doors left open all night, unsure where I parked my car at work (when I move it more than once a day), and names of my old friend “whats his name”. And now I forgot to wheedle for any submissions for my Thursday guest post….

      1. OH NO!!! Wheedling is what we do, man! If you ever run out of fresh stuff, you can grab something from my blog anytime you like. Wasn’t there a hose incident recently, too? Oooh, I shouldn’t have said that! *whistles nonchalantly*
